Funny Girl at Ahmanson Theatre

Fanny Brice's journey from being a tender, forgettable, stage-shy young teen to becoming a national star is enacted in the theater show, Funny Girl. It is based on the happenings in her life that transpired just before, during, and after World War I. Her narrative starts in her early years in the Lower East Side of New York City, where the young teenager hustles her way through burlesque and vaudeville while hoping to make it big despite being disparaged by her family and friends who say she is not pretty enough to be a star on stage. It also tells the story of her relationship with Nick Arnstein, a charming local whose pull Fanny finds irresistible, as well as the eventual failure of their marriage. The musical presentation at the Ahmanson Theatre features a number of show-stopping songs like "People" and "Don't Let It Rain on My Parade," which audiences totally love.
